SADLER FINISHES 32ND UNDER THE LIGHTS AT BRISTOL
BRISTOL, Tenn. – Elliott Sadler and the No. 19 Stanley Tools Dodge arrived at Bristol Motor Speedway with the best of intentions. Coming off of back-to-back top-15 finishes, the No. 19 team had high hopes and a fast race car.
The Stanley Tools Dodge started in the 10th position, outside of row five after Friday’s qualifying session. Sadler was able to hold the top 10 position for the first 77 laps on Saturday night, moving as high as eighth on several occasions.
Sadler was racing for the 15th position battling worn tires when the first caution came out on lap 96. The yellow flag allowed the No. 19 team to enter pit road for four fresh tires, a chassis adjustment and fuel.
When the race restarted on lap 103, Sadler radioed saying he had a loose seat belt and needed to come into pit.
“I know this is going to set us back pretty far and may put us out of contention for the night,” Sadler said. “But I can’t stay out here with a loose seat belt. I’m sorry guys. I know we have a great car.”
Sadler brought the No. 19 Dodge to pit road under green flag conditions to fix the seat belt causing the team to lose track position and fall several laps down.
The Stanley Tools Dodge returned to the track in the 40th position and spent the rest of the night battling to gain positions before finishing 32nd.
Carl Edward won for the second week in a row, followed by Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin, Kevin Harvick and Jeff Gordon rounding out the top-five.
Sadler currently ranks 20th in driver points, trailing Kurt Busch for the 19th position by 78 points.
The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will make its final trip of the season to California this weekend as teams return to Auto Club Speedway of Southern California. Two races remain until the Chase for the Championship begins in New Hampshire.
